| So for those of you who don't know, the Confederations Cup is played a year before each World Cup in the same host country. The Confederations Cup is a tournament where the winners of each Confederation face off in a "best of the best" match-ups. This time both the Confederation Cup and World Cup are being hosted by South Africa. The Confederations Cup has two groups. The top two of each group advance to the next round. Here are the teams: Group A: 1. Spain 2. South Africa 3. New Zealand 4. Iraq Group B: 1. Italy 2. Brazil 3. USA 4. Egypt Without question the group of death and the toughest is Group B. All those match-ups will be interesting to watch. In group A, without question the clear favorite and 99.99% sure to advance to the next round is Spain. 2nd place will be battled out between the remaining three. Today was the first day of play for Group A and here are the results. 1.South Africa 0-0 Iraq 2. Spain 5-0 New Zealand Tomorrow Group B plays it out. USA plays Italy and Brazil plays Egypt. The USA/Italy match-up should be a good game. We will finally get to see them play after a controversial game in Germany 2006. The favorite of course is Italy, but also, Italy is known for staring off slow. If the USA can light it up in the beginning of the game, the US could pull up an upset. In the Brazil/Egypt game, Brazil is the clear favorite but then again, in soccer like in any other sport, anything can happen.
