| update! "Alex Rodriguez went through a battery of additional tests in Colorado on Friday, and the results could be pivotal in influencing his decision regarding surgery. The Yankees have said that Rodriguez will eventually need to correct a labrum tear in his right hip, but the organization is hopeful that he can delay it until after the season and avoid a four-month rehabilitation period. Rodriguez had a cyst in the hip drained on Wednesday. In a telephone conversation, he told manager Joe Girardi that he was planning to hit and throw in Colorado on Friday, gauging how his hip reacted to that procedure. "He said he was doing OK and he felt, in a sense, a little bit of relief from that cyst being gone," Girardi said. "He said that he wanted to hit today and throw today, and then make a determination what the next step was." Girardi said that he believed there was a chance Rodriguez -- based on Friday's workout -- could reverse course and decide to have the surgical procedure. Having it immediately would put him out until approximately July. While the Yankees will consult with doctors and other personnel on the matter, the final decision would be ultimately made by Rodriguez.
